“How do we prevent Childhood Obesity?”

What is Childhood Obesity?



This is an epidemic in United States that is growing fast. This problem affects more than 30% of our children, and is known as the most common chronic disease for childhood. Since 1980 this number for the condition has tripled. Childhood Obesity is known as an issue with the child's health. Lots more children today are being diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, and other conditions that are co-morbid associated with obesity.

To prevent Childhood Obesity families should do the following:


Help kids develop eating habits that are healthy.

  • " Give them plenty of whole grain products, fruits, and vegetables.

    " Give them dairy products like low fat and nonfat milk.

    " Give the meats that are lean, or poultry, fish, lentils, or beans for protein.

    " Give them servings that are reasonably sized.

    " Limit the sugar that they intake, sweetened beverages, saturated fat, or sodium.

    " Encourage the child to drink lots of water.

    Prepare the child's favorite dishes a little healthier than before.

    " Changing the recipes so that they are a little healthier, like the calories, sugar, and other bad health items.

    " Make new hearty health dishes like wheat sandwiches, light salads, light foods that will not destroy the child's health, and also use foods that are good for the child's hear and their weight.

    Remove calorie-rich temptations.



  • In moderation treats are ok, but limiting high sugar and high fat, or salty snacks will help your children develop a healthy eating habit here are some pointers below:


  • " A medium-size apple

    " A medium-size banana

    " 1 cup blueberries

    " 1 cup grapes

    " 1 cup carrots, broccoli, or bell peppers with 2 tbsp. hummus

    Background: Community-based initiatives show promise for preventing childhood obesity.

    (1) Strengthen community action for childhood obesity prevention.

    (2) Measure the impact of increased action on risk factors for childhood obesity.
