The advantages of operating in a virtual environment, is that is very positive and very incising to be able to operate in virtual settings on a real computer machine. That’s like having two computers on with different OS’s at one time. This also can be fun and it also comes with some cons. The advantages and disadvantages are as follows:

  • Advantages
  • You have the ability to operate more than one operating system at one time.
  • Running a virtual operating system provides more flexibility. This allows one to install, reinstall, move, backup, and also keep up with the hard disk, and memory.
  • Machines from each OS are not in the same location as with a standalone environment, they are placed separately in the virtual environment.
  • Running a virtual operating system allows instructions and a real computer doesn’t feature this.
  • Virtual operating systems are easy to maintain, recovery is always available, and if something goes wrong the system can be rolled back.
  • There is no need for additional software.
  • Network management is contained.

  • Disadvantages

  • There is a problem with a drop in the performance usually because of the operating systems on the machine, with different drivers being used by each on.
  • The system is slower than a real computer operating system.
  • When the hard drives needs support on the side for the guest. Also, there is always a problem with that side of the OS.
  • Unstable performance when the virtual machines run along with each other, and depend on how big the workload is.
  • Using a virtual operating system isn’t better than using a real one.
  • When devices are plugged in with a USB, the operating system will not recognize them.
