Types of Communications That Are Needed For Network Environments.

Go Back

For this type of communication needed for a network that consists of 50 computers and 7 printers, 10 offices, 10 laptops that synchronize with 3 printers spread out throughout the building. This would involve using a WAN and LAN network topology that consists of wireless devices and servers for information transfer between offices and ware houses. For this job we will use a Full Mesh Topology, which will give strong communication paths between all devices. The Full Mesh Topology would save messages that are sent throughout all the devices from dropping or being held up, because a mesh topology can take many different paths to source file destinations, unlike Star and Bus topologies that only travel through one wire. With the Ring Topology two paths can exist, but the information only takes one path to transfer the messages or information and only travels in one direction. By being that we will use a LAN and WAN based topology, a mesh is usually used with a WAN based topology to transfer better and stop the errors that occur from the network dropping due to cables not being connected right. By using this type of topology it would save time and money considering the space between the offices and the warehouse.

For the cooperate office we will use a LAN (Local Area Network) because the corporate office will need to supply wireless printers and computers along with databases that will be used to store and transfer information. The computers are in a close proximity and will be synchronized together so for the cooperate office we will use a local area network that will synchronize with a wide area network for the warehouse. We will use Fiber Optic cabling due to wiring needing to be strong and fast enough to transfer information to and from each location. Fiber Optic cable is a cable that has one or more optical fibers that carry light and has a fast processing speed, because the information is carried through a light signal that moves faster than a wired signal. They are coated with plastic layers and are placed in a protected tube so that the cable can be deployed where it is needed. Fiber Optic is expensive for this job, but due to the large information loads to be transferred we will need to use a fast communication wiring that will not affect the transfer of information, and will not drop any information due to cheap wiring and configurations. This will provide a high speed data process throughout the building, leaving no room for errors and breakdowns. The WAN based Wide Area Network, will be used for the warehouse which we will get into next. This will help the transfer of the information wirelessly to the warehouse from the cooperate office without needing to add more fiber optic cable by the foot or mile this would cause the company to have to use grounding which will bring more money issues. So using a WAN based network this will keep the company in synchronization with the warehouse and cooperate office.

Warehouse Topology (WAN NETWORK)

For the Warehouse there will be 10 laptops and three printers throughout the building, this will need to use a Wide Area Network, because cabling and grounding isn't too good due to storms and pest that eat away at the wiring. We will operate on a Wireless WAN Network that will synchronize RF devices, servers and a database. This will secure the warehouse and stop the network from dropping to wring having to be dug up from poor grounding. Using a wireless

End Devices
  1. Cisco Wireless Business Routers 802.11b/g/n, this will allow any remote devices and cell phones to operate correctly with the system to transfer information and for management to send and receive information.
  2. Dell PowerEdge Racks (server), this server is useful for a strong connection with each computer and database, and helps to store and secure any information being used or accessed by employees and staff members. This server is made for business and is a very modern server that has capabilities of storing massive loads of information.
  3. RF Bar Code Scanners, this scanner would support the warehouse with scanner all the parts and products they sell into the database and keep track of all inventory for the company. These are good for warehouses; they stop the walking back and forth from the pc, to insert information from incoming and outgoing products and parts.
  4. Kenwood ProTalk TK-3230BKP Portable UHF Business Two-Way Radio, 1.5 Watts, 6 Channels. This will allow the business to communicate at long distance without phones and other devices like beepers and pagers. This is a more modern approach to warehouse communication and serves as an on call procedure for accident reports and emergencies within the business.
  5. Canon MX472 Wireless Office All-In-One Inkjet Printer, this would save the walking around the warehouse and offices and send information to printers in all locations wirelessly, making communication easier to manage within the facility

The network media that I would recommend would be Dell Business Server Racks, these would support the information and databases that are associated with the company and help to store all important information over any distance. Also, the server racks are strong and can hold large amounts of data that the company will need to store as needed. The next network media I would use would be a Polycom, Inc. Voicestation 300 Conference Phone - 2200-17910-001, this would allow the company to hold conference meetings that will synchronize remotely within the management offices for new test launches, company upgrades, media upgrades, and other associated conference needs. This handles all the communication purposes when other companies want to release new products and test new parts, and add new devices and technology to the company. The reason why I would use this is to keep all the communication easy to do so that the company will not have a problem when they need to contact any other source from within the company, and all they would have to do is press a button to pair with the offices they want to communicate with and transfer information. The company doesn't need any communication problems this can be fatal to the company itself not being able to communicate and transfer information properly.

The other network design that are not the best solution for the company would be the Ring Topology, because every partner has a neighbor they communicate with and all travel in a ring like manner. If the cables are faulty, this would cause a communication loss and a breakdown of the system, so this wouldn't be good for the company. A star topology would not be good for the company, because a star topology is used for home network and this isn't a home network. Also, devices connect to the HUB that is used by the star topology by UTP Unshielded Twisted Pair cable and we are using Fiber Optic for the corporate office, and a WAN based wireless network for the warehouse. Star Topology, require more cable than fiber optic and usually breaks down one computer but if the hub goes, then the whole network fails and this will be a disaster. My network is scalable because, it is easy to design, implement, upgrade and deploy any practical needs for the company. If they weren't knowledgeable on the devices we made them easy to use and manage, and they last long and are sturdy to disaster that comes from cheap devices. Deploying the network is also scalable, because we didn't use the grounding method we used wireless and fiber optic cabling, so that if they expand, they will not lose any money converting more devices and cabling due to the way we designed the network.
